I am outgoing and “boisterous,” as described by my teachers. My hobbies include playing sports, playing video games, and writing.

My TEDx experience was one that I will never forget. I remember the day before my actual speech, I was very nervous. Then after the rehearsal I was feeling very comfortable and relaxed because I actually got to see where I would be presenting. The day of the speech I was still a little nervous, but nothing abnormal. Everyone was very courteous and helpful to me when I asked questions or voiced any concerns. Although it was early, I quickly woke up after listening to some of the presentations of the kids. Overall, my time there was great and I would do it again.

To prepare for the TEDx Talk, I practiced with Ms. Thornton after school. This was also when other people came in to watch me practice. Practicing took a lot of time. On the day of the talk, I was really excited and a little nervous. I liked having the slides behind me to help guide me in my talk. Using the slide clicker was a lot of fun. I liked that my grandparents could watch me “live” in Tennessee. I liked representing my school and being with the other students from my school. It made me feel like I was part of a team. It was the most AWESOME experience, and I will try out again next year!

He likes music and plays the piano, as well as an Indian classical drum called tabla. He has two younger sisters for whom he is a great role model. When he grows up, he wants to be a doctor.

Suraj Pandit | Reflection

TEDx was a very unique experience. At first I had trouble thinking of a topic. However, I did a difficult board break at Mo Ranch, and everyone thought it was cool. Also, I tested for my black belt in Tae Kwon Do. As a result, I chose martial arts. During my presentation, the video stopped working, which at first had me worried, but then I realized that gave me a chance to practice what I was speaking about. I think TEDx was a special experience that has made me a better person.

As a New Englander, Noah enjoyed family trips to historical sites in Boston, such as the Freedom Trial, USS Constitution and the Paul Revere House, and also experienced the foliage and beauty of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. As a Floridian, Noah enjoyed the beautiful blue oceans of Miami and trips to the Everglades to watch for alligators on airboat rides! Now, as a Texan, Noah takes great pride in living in a state so steeped in history and especially enjoys the challenges of his academic program at Kinkaid. However, one of the most important aspects of Noah’s life is his incredible devotion to his sister, Ella, who experienced a brain hemorrhage as a baby and resultantly developed epilepsy and learning delays. Noah’s compassion, love for, and understanding of Ella and other special children like her is a large part of Noah’s personality and life. The incredibly deep commitment Noah makes to the life of Ella and others like her is the basis for his Ted Talk about special needs.

Noah Rubinson | Reflection

TEDxYouthDay was a great event in which I am very glad I participated! Talking about special needs children and the different ways that we can all become involved in the special needs community is very personal to me because of my sister, Ella. During my Tedx Talk, I felt a connection with the audience that made the event very special. TEDxYouthDay provided a great opportunity to my classmates and me to spread the word about topics that are very important to us, and I hope to have the chance to do it again!

Alyssa Kapusta | Reflection

Once upon a time there was an Iraq war veteran named Andrew. That was how my presentation began. I can still remember the speech and I don’t even have to look at it.  I know it from memory. That took weeks and weeks of hard earned work to master my speech. I can hardly remember why I took on this task because it feels like it was years ago that I started TEDx, but it was all worth it.

When I walked on stage, my time that I had used to prepare my presentation swept through my head. I remembered every second of it. I remember working on it, getting frustrated at a single piece of paper, and also loving every second of it. Even though my talk was 7 minutes, I flew through my speech, and it felt like only 2 minutes. When I walked off, in my head I was like ‘Wow,I have accomplished something amazing in my life!’

I never messed up because I practiced. I never messed up because I was enjoying talking about therapy animals. I finally came true to my speech. I got my rats. Finally. I really do hope the other part of my speech will ring true, the part about others taking on the task of being a therapy team with their animal. Thank you so much, those people who were in the audience, for being there and supporting me and my accomplishment. I loved it and I can’t wait till next year.

Isabella Neblett | Think Again: The Role of Teenagers in the Society

The Post Oak School

My name is Isabella Neblett, and I am currently a sophomore at the Post Oak High School. During my hours of freedom, I read too much Psychology Today, collect cheesy quotes, and think about philosophy. I'm a professional procrastinator, and a passionate writer. I'm a lot of things, but the main ones are that I am 15, human, and count myself as being one of the future forty percent of American adults who have stage fright according to NBC. However, I have been learning to conqueror this fear since my first experience with Montessori Model United Nations when I had to deliver a speech in front of hundreds of fellow teenagers. While this was utterly terrifying, it also made me realize something about myself that I had never realized before. I really love people, and I want to help them all.

MeghaNeelapu | Lead the Way

The Post Oak School

My name is Megha Neelapu, I am twelve years old, and go to The Post Oak School. Recently, I have become very interested in climate change: the biggest problem of the century. Instead of sitting around and worrying about it, I decided to fix it. I know that many kids are, or will be very interested in the topic of climate change, and they want to do something about it, but they don’t know how. That is why I am giving a talk at this TEDx event. My hope is that after I give my talk, kids will now be able to make our earth a better place.
